Intent

The Music Curriculum at St Joseph’s seeks to fulfil the aims of the National Curriculum in the broadest way possible.  At St Joseph's we aim to instil in children a sense of fun and enjoyment throughout their whole music learning journey.  Immersive and creative activities allow children to experiment with sounds and effects in performance and composition, and we aim to develop an appreciation and love of music across a wide variety of genres.

Implementation

We implement music at St Joseph’s by ensuring that children sing, listen, play, perform and evaluate. This is embedded in the school through the teaching of the national curriculum, specialist music teachers delivering lessons weekly through the key stages,  as well as the weekly singing assemblies and various performances throughout the school year.

Impact

The impact of our Music curriculum will lead to progress over time across key stages relative to a child’s individual starting point and their progression of skills. Those children with a particular interest or aptitude in music will be given the opportunity to extend their education in a variety of ways by specific music lessons, for example- guitar lessons.  Our Music curriculum will hopefully foster a love and increasing enthusiasm for the subject amongst our children.
