What an incredible National Storytelling Week it has been at St. Joseph’s! Our school has been buzzing with creativity, curiosity, and a shared love of stories. From raps and riddles to masked mystery readers, the week has been filled with unforgettable moments that brought our whole community together.
A Show‑Stopping Start: Year 5/6 Rap the Three Little Pigs!
We began the week with a burst of energy as Year 5/6 transformed the traditional tale of The Three Little Pigs into a brilliant rap performance.
Packed with rhythm, confidence, attitude, and a touch of sass, the children proved that storytelling can take many shapes — and sometimes those shapes rhyme! Their performance set the tone for a week where imagination took centre stage.
The Mystery Continues… The Masked Reader!
Inspired by The Masked Singer, our very own Masked Reader made their grand return.
Each day brought a new disguised storyteller with a familiar voice and a favourite book — leaving pupils guessing, laughing, and eagerly waiting for the next reveal.
Families at home got involved too, sharing guesses and joining in the fun.
Who knew reading could be so suspenseful?
Starbooks: A Cosy Café of Stories
One of the highlights of the week was the return of Starbooks, our warm and welcoming reading café where children share stories with their adults over a cosy cup of something warm.
EYFS & KS1 Starbooks
We were thrilled with the amazing turnout from parents and carers. Seeing our youngest readers curled up with a book and a loved one reminded us why this week matters so much.
Year 3/4 & Year 5/6 Starbooks
The storytelling celebrations continued midweek as our older pupils enjoyed their own Starbooks session. With buzzing conversations and shared stories filling the room, it was clear that reading continues to be at the heart of our school family.
And yes — even with all the excitement —
✔️ Pirate Rob’s Club ran as usual
✔️ Year 6 Power Hour stayed on the timetable
Because reading magic fits around everything!
A Week to Remember
Throughout the week, classrooms came alive with storytelling activities, book‑themed challenges, author inspirations, and shared reading moments. From dressing up as favourite characters to discovering new stories and revisiting old ones, the joy of reading echoed across every corridor.
National Storytelling Week reminded us of something truly special:
- Stories bring us together.
- Stories inspire us.
- Stories help us grow.
Thank You
A heartfelt thank you to our pupils, staff, parents, and carers for making this year’s National Storytelling Week such a success. Your enthusiasm, participation, and love of reading make St. Joseph’s the wonderful community it is.
We can’t wait to continue celebrating the magic of books — not just this week, but every week.
